Meazza Stadium Milan

In this case study we assisted Maffeis Engineering in evaluating the behavior of rain droplets within a stadium environment, under specific flow and wind conditions. The simulation was run based on the existing model of Meazza stadium in Milan and served as a guiding tool to validate and support the new design development.

Key parameters are:

> Wind intensity 10 m/s

> Rainfall 3 mm/h

> Droplet diameter 1.5 mm

Figure 1 shows the computed trajectories of droplet and their concentration (grams per cubic meter) on a horizontal section at 15 m from the ground. The blue areas are the ones sheltered from the rain.

Figure 2 shows the droplet concentration (in grams per cubic meter) and isolines, on a vertical section aligned with the wind direction.

Comparison vs Literature

VENTO AEC was used to conduct CFD simulations using the parameters outlined in the study titled ‘Wind-driven Rain on Two Parallel Wide Buildings.’

The results demonstrate a seamless correlation between the two simulations, encompassing both the flux of rain droplets and the velocity map on a vertical section, respectively presented to the left and to the right in below Figures and using the same scale.
